MyGate now follows GDPR guidelines, the global gold standard for data security

Keeping your information safe, secure and private is, by far, our highest priority. This is why we’ve always been advertising free, and have never shared or traded data with any third party since our inception. It’s also why our app is ISO 27001 certified and goes through multiple vulnerability assessment tests every day.

But this time, we’ve raised the bar much higher. We’re glad to announce that MyGate is now GDPR-ready. As you may be aware, GDPR is the global gold standard for data privacy and seeks to uphold privacy rights and give people significant control over their own data.

What’s more is, this change also makes MyGate compliant with the proposed Indian Data Privacy Bill, 2019, which is still before Parliament!

This makes MyGate’s data controls best-in-class; in fact, we’re the among the few B2C apps built for an Indian audience with such advanced privacy settings. Here are five ways your MyGate experience will change immediately:

1. Guests need not share their number
2. All data logs will now be masked
3. You will have access to your data log
4. All visitor data will be auto-deleted
5. You have the right to be forgotten

1. Guests need not share their number

From now on, you will not need to share your guests’ contact information to create an invite. Nor will your guest be required to share his phone number in case he/she arrives at your gate unannounced. Guests will only need to share their name and flat number at the gate.

Only Name Required: Your guests no longer need to share their phone number at the gate.

2. All data logs will now be masked

The security log maintained for your society is available for perusal by your Management Committee. From now on, all personally identifiable information in this log will be masked.

3. You will have access to your data log

Should any person access your data – whether an MC member or MyGate employee – for any reason, you will be able to find out who viewed your data, when and for what reason.

Open access logs: You will now know if your data has been accessed.

4. All visitor data will be auto-deleted

All entry and exit data will now be deleted from MyGate systems after 60 days by default. Your RWA will have the option to reset this to 120 days or 180 days, but no longer. Once deleted, even MyGate will not be able to retrieve past data.

Periodic deletion: Your society can hold visitor data for a maximum of 180 days.

5. You have the right to be forgotten

You can now also choose for your personal data to be deleted. MyGate will then seek the society’s approval, post which resident information would be deleted from all places (except financial records).

Wipeout data: If you don’t want to be a MyGate user, you can request that your data be forgotten.

These steps are only the beginning. We are extremely serious about the protection and privacy of your data and we will keep making rapid advancements in this regard. We look forward to your feedback and suggestions, and also invite you to view our updated Privacy Policy, which reflects the changes made in the app and mentioned above.
